Abstract

NC Statewide Imagery Project: Access to Image Services and Data
Track: Imagery
Authors: David Giordano

North Carolina created NC OneMap, an online clearinghouse and data warehouse, in 2004, modeled after The National Map. Data access relied on a catalog of Web Mapping Services (WMS), imagery services, and FTP download. A problem emerged in 2010 with the initiation of a statewide collection of high resolution imagery. NC OneMap needed technical revitalization and additional capacity to accommodate the statewide project. In collaboration with imagery data users through the NC Geographic Information Coordinating Council, and supported by a new Enterprise License Agreement with ESRI, CGIA specified system requirements and installed ArcGIS Server 10 with Image and Geoportal extensions. CGIA supplemented the project team's expertise with targeted technical advice and training from ESRI. In early 2011, CGIA will implement image services along with data discovery and download functions to meet the needs of statewide users. Lessons learned will be applicable in large imagery projects in other states.
