The US Forest Serivce Forest Health Technology Enterprise Team (FHTET) created a suite of flex based ArcGIS Server web applications to help disseminate information on forest pests, and help answer the question - 'what's killing our forests'. The development team utilized ArcGIS Server version 10 and version 2 of the Flex API. As such, the applications could not be deployed in the USDA data centers because they were running ArcGIS Server 9.3, and were looking at more than a year before doing the upgrade to version 10. Thus, FHTET opted to do a 'proof of concept' project, in which the application was deployed to a server running in the Amazon cloud. This presentation will provide a quick review of the application itself, as well as provide guidance and best practices for moving an application that was designed for an 'on-premise' environment up to Amazon.
