Mobile GIS for Building Inspection Management

In the City of Anaheim, building inspection requests are assigned through our permit tracking system, but the inspectors needed a way to organize their inspection stops and track their time. After working closely with the users, it became obvious that GIS could help by mapping out their daily inspections. Using ESRI's new WPF mobile map control, an application was built in house that works in disconnected environments and greatly simplifies the computer-based tasks for the inspectors. Designed to run on a touchscreen Panasonic Toughbook, the program is finger-friendly and easy to use.
