Abstract

Save A Tree: Utilizing ArcReader For Vegetation Management Planning
Track: Electric Utilities
Authors: DAVID SOULE

Field planning personnel needed to confirm company assets, asset labeling, parcel addressing and owner information in a spatial view to validate historical data and create new vegetation management strategies and plans. The implementation required search, identification, and labeling for nearly one million features. A maximum display refresh rate of three seconds was required.
The desired refresh rate required a geographic division of the data and managed layer visibility, symbology and labeling. The result was a seamless cartographic view and comprehensive search tool for the end-user.
ArcReader provided a low cost paperless solution for hosting full enterprise datasets in a disconnected environment. The solution provided the field personnel with overall improved efficiency through increased decision making accuracy and speed. Time savings were also seen through a reduction in the need for additional traveling and investigation to confirm locations and assets.
The project provides insight for optimizing ArcReader usability and performance.
