Abstract

WorldMap: A Framework for Collaboration
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Authors: Benjamin Lewis

The Center for Geographic Analysis is building a flexible framework to support the sharing, visualization, and archiving of geospatial information called WorldMap. The system is being designed first for researchers but will be accessible to anyone wishing to manage their materials online, including features such as data upload, access control, and collaboration.

The system will stand on many shoulders and to minimize cost, will use established standards, open APIs, best available data, and off-the-shelf software wherever possible. Common web collaboration methods will be supported such as live feeds and web services, tagging, annotation, site embedding.

The architecture will be described and the reason for our choices presented. ArcGIS Server will be relied on for a variety of advanced processing, and visualization operations, and we will demonstrate these capabilities and those of the overall system. Finally, we will solicit ideas for the next version of the system.
