Developing a regional groundwater simulation model includes a wide array of information on subsurface formations, climate, water sources, discharges, land use, and more. For planning purposes, there is a need to predict how some of these variables will change over time, and how these changes will affect availability of groundwater resources. This case study demonstrates the development of a regional groundwater simulation model for the Sacramento region. In addition, a land use change/water demand model was developed to help predict groundwater discharge and recharge until 2050.
