Abstract

Evolving Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric from National to Regional Scale
Track: Water Resources
Authors: Shane crossman

The Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, CSIRO Land and Water, and the Australian National University Fenner School have embarked on a major new partnership to develop the Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (Geofabric). The Geofabric is being developed as the geospatial framework to underpin AWRIS. AWRIS will be the authoritative repository for water data and reporting in Australia. The vision for the Geofabric is to provide a single and authoritative representation of Australia's hydrological features and the enduring need to evolve and maintain water information through time. This is being achieved through collaborative and inclusive partnerships to evolve the current National 1:250k scale Geofabric by integrating the best available scaled hydrology datasets, with the realities of implementation and maintenance across national, state, regional and local jurisdictions. The seminar will provide insights into technical, social and economic challenges which must be overcome to significantly improve Australia's spatial data infrastructure.
