Abstract

Best Practies for Sustaining and Expanding Geospatial Programs Panel Session
Track: Education
Authors: Ann Johnson

Many schools have developed courses for GIS and other geospatial technologies that initially were highly successful only to find it hard to maintain or expand offerings. The GeoTech Center has focused on efforts to identify best practices and strategies that support program sustainability and expansion. This panel session will discuss some of these strategies including: articulation, GIS as a General Education course, industry Certification, Remote Desktop Access and Virtualization, and promoting Administrative use of GIS technology. Speakers will include authors of the special education issue of the URISA Journal or Best Practices papers on the GeoTech web site that support sustainability. Links to additional resources will also be provided to help educators support their programs.
