Connecting Developers - An EDC Approach from Germany

Since two years the Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi) at University of Muenster has the special status of an Esri Development Center (EDC). Through the EDC-program ifgi profits from various advantages like special access to licenses for students and staff, free training contingent, student of the year award and direct exchange with developers from Esri. The goal is to support students designing and developing GIS applications using ArcGIS desktop or server technology, to foster the exchange of research ideas and, in general, to connect developers from industry and science. What are some common practice and research interests of developers from academia and industry? How to establish connections between developers and enable a continuous knowledge transfer? What are the first results? Experiences made with the first EDC in Germany will be presented.
