Abstract

A Digital Pipeline: Streamlining Pipeline Data from Field to Geodatabase
Track: Pipeline and Gas Utilities
Authors: Chad Harcrow, Al Brown

Pipeline construction and maintenance is a major investment for pipeline operators, and a critical component to maintaining this asset and providing lasting value is the capturing of key data early in the process and the elimination of redundancies. A complete geospatial representation of the new infrastructure increases the value of the new asset by immediately supporting ongoing operations, maintenance, integrity management, and regulatory compliance activities.

This presentation details Holly Energy Partner's streamlined process for capturing data during pipeline construction and rehabilitation, processing data for quality, and loading data to the production enterprise geodatabase. Simplifying management of stationing data in the field; collection techniques that reduce the complexity, duplication and effort; and advanced quality assurance techniques are keys to this operator's success. Major lessons learned will highlight ArcGIS geoprocessing techniques and the use of ArcGIS Server to quickly make new data available to users throughout Holly Energy.
