A GIScience Application for Visualized Resources Management and Decision Support

This study presents two decision support plug-ins (uWATER and uWATER-PA) in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop. Both tools are designed to provide easy access to GIS analysis functions on spatial and attribute queries, then further extended for analyzing specific environmental issue of groundwater pumping impacts. A graphical user interface makes both data entry and interpretation of results intuitive to non-technical individuals. The goal is to break a technical barrier by incorporating industrial-strength GIS analysis functions into the interfaces of public GIS services and step toward applying GIScience to bridge the gap between GIS, individual users, and society.
