AxisGis: A web-application for visualizing detailed and aggregated exposure data

Axis GIS has been developed to support the natural hazards modeling process. It was a basic requirement, that without any GIS knowledge, exposure data of any ReInsurance policy could be rendered on an interactive base map. The application offers a couple of configurable data reports which allow to visualize ReInsurance policies using different renderers on demand within the browser. Presentation goals: . Present the application. . Explain the requirements and reasons which led to the use of Spatial Data Service (MapIt) and to the Silverlight API as mapping library. . Explain the limits of the application, facing huge data volumes and a globally distributed client/server environment within Axis.
