Abstract

GIS' Manifest Destiny
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Bill Hodge GISP

GIS emerged from its cartographic roots, and, in one generation, moved from an esoteric concept merging data and location into a true disruptive technology, one of the fastest growing in the modern world. This was the focus of the presentation given last year at the 2010 ESRI UC.

Now, this concept has been revisited and updated from the standpoint of its increased use in social networking, as well as business intelligence and analytics. This presentation will explore the implications of this growth and expansion through the next generation of GIS use.

This author sees GIS consuming these technologies as it continues to evolve to become the Penultimate Technology:

GIS - Everything, Everywhere, for Anyone, Anywhere, at Anytime.
