Abstract

Benefits of ArcGIS Online Community Maps: A Regional Planning Perspective
Track: Community Maps Program
Authors: Paul Hunt

This presentation describes the benefits regional planning agencies (such as Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Council of Governments) receive from participating in the ArcGIS Online Community Maps Program. Metro area county GIS departments collaborate to develop and expand a seamless regional map of large scale data served up through the ArcGIS Online World Topographic Map. Thus, the resulting GIS infrastructure is compiled to a common data standard. The Omaha Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency will discuss two of their area's current projects that have benefited from this collaborative effort. First, the use of ESRI's World Topographic Map as the basemap for web mapping applications that cover the full geographical extent of the metro area. Second, utilizing the regional GIS layers compiled to a common data standard for other projects that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
