Community Maps: Opening Canada to the World

Many governments across Canada have already implemented open data initiatives or are in the process of creating open data policies. The Community Maps Program is just one of many consumers of governments' open data, but adds significant value by delivering it in a format that is immediately useful to government mapping agencies, GIS professionals and the general public.

Through the program, ESRI Canada has worked with local, provincial and federal mapping agencies to bring their data to the Web, in the creation of a Web Map of Canada that seamlessly integrates with the World Topographic Map. This national Web map helps demonstrate the true value of open data and fosters the development of innovative applications for the benefit of citizens.
