Abstract

A Tool for Evaluating the completeness of Adaptive Management systems
Track: GeoDesign
Authors: Philip Murphy

In this Session we have presented a number of spatial decision support (SDS) systems. Despite their heterogeneity, all of these SDSs were designed with the idea of supporting adaptive stewardship of natural resources. In this presentation we present a framework for the core components required for a fully functional adaptive management system for natural resources. We relate that framework to common approaches to model development such as geodesign. Using that framework we develop a visual tool that evaluates to what extent a given SDS system provides a complete realization of an adaptive management system for natural resources. We use the tool to evaluate a number of the SDS system presented in this Session, and identify components that would need to be developed within each SDS. Finally we demonstrate an online prototype of the evaluation tool that is driven by the SDS Ontology hosted at Redlands Institute.
