Abstract

ESRI NEA and the Use of ESRI Products
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Justin Haas

NEA and GVS use the ESRI ArcGIS Server product line with multiple Server extensions as one of its COTS applications to provide dynamic and cached mapping services as well as geoprocessing services. Using various COTS and FOSS products enables exploitation of strengths from each vendors' solutions. GVS delivery to NEA mainly focuses on enterprise services collected from commercial, global aggregated, best-available content from NGA/non-NGA sources, multi-scale basemaps that provide imagery, raster, vector/feature, and terrain services to the NSG. GVS exposes these geospatial services through Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) service interfaces and formats as well as the COTS APIs. GVS also provides a web/browser-based application called PalanterraX3, which is based on the ESRI ArcGIS Web Mapping Javascript API. NEA and GVS advocate the adoption of OGC service interfaces and encodings as a central theme of both COTS, FOSS, GOTS capabilities to enable a smarter and more interoperability NSG architecture.
