Abstract

Integrated Workforce Automation for Optimized Distribution Water Quality Management
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Authors: Joseph McGarry

The Louisville Water Company (LWC) automated paper-based work processes for improved optimization of distribution water quality management. A flexible web-based work management and mobile workforce solution integrated with GIS and CIS systems helped to automate both office administration and field related inspection and water quality maintenance tasks. Administrative users manage schedules for automatic creation of water quality work orders based on defined work cycles, or manually create tickets as-needed to react to emergencies or special requests. Work orders are dispatched to field inspectors and water quality specialists who review and complete work orders in their enterprise mobile GIS application. Completed work orders return to office administrators who review, validate and close work orders. LWC continues to develop and adopt best industry practices in distribution water quality management. Water quality in the distribution system continues to improve as a result.
