The Fish Passage Decision Support System (FPDSS) is a rich internet application developed by the U.S. FWS to support fisheries resources conservation actions nationwide. FPDSS provides the Service, and the public with a robust platform for fast access, analysis and communication of a wide range of fisheries information. The system facilitates and provides the framework for effectively assessing and finding immediate solutions for fisheries issues such as stream fragmentation, habitat loss, and impacts due to climate change. It significantly improves the decision–making process by using a GIS as a framework for relating and managing a large volume of complex data. As a communications tool, FPDSS provides a powerful mechanism to create awareness and promote the Service fisheries conservation actions by demonstrating accomplishments and needs. The FPDSS is a science-driven approach for making efficient, transparent decisions about where and how to expend resources for the maximum benefit of aquatic species.
