Abstract
RISK MAPPER – a web-mapping tool for insurance decision making
Track: Business and Commercial
Authors: Tina Marquardt
As in general insured assets are fundamentally spatially distributed, responsible risk management requires a solid understanding of the underlying spatial dimension. Mapping single risks and portfolios and analyzing them by using spatial datasets that represent the natural hazards which drive insurance losses, should be among the priority tasks when making underwriting decisions.
This presentation describes the RISK MAPPER - an interactive, flexible and visually appealing Web mapping application based on the ESRI ArcGIS API for Flex. The Risk Mapper is a tool for global natural hazard risk assessment, which increases risk transparency by allowing portfolios of insured assets to be visualized and analyzed anywhere across the globe. Having uploaded his own (portfolio) data, the user can display and analyze Munich Re's NATHAN Natural Hazard Maps, event footprints, socioeconomic data, web feeds, etc. The Risk Mapper does not only support underwriting decision making but also supports accumulation control and loss assessment.
