Managing line clearing efforts for public safety, reliability, and regulatory purposes is a year round effort for Southern California Edison's (SCE) Vegetation Management department. The service territory covers approximately 50,000 square miles, serves 4.2 million customers and spans from the Southern California coast to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Vegetation Management is responsible for clearing corridors along 12,000 transmission circuit miles and 13,500 distribution circuit miles in order to reduce the risk of fire and meet California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations, as well as State Fire Marshall's Public Resources Code Sections 4292 and 4293. SCE's Vegetation Management department commissioned the creation of an ArcGIS Server Application to meet these requirements and support fire prevention goals.
