LAX Development Program: A Complicated Venture

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Development Group has approved approximately $3 billion dollars of airport improvements. With these large projects underway, the Airport Development Group formed the Coordination and Logistics Management (CALM) Team. Due to the scale and scope of the construction projects, the CALM team developed a SharePoint GIS tool to track all construction throughout the central terminal area. This tool utilizes ArcGIS Desktop and Server to manage both spatial and schedule data and expands upon ESRI-provided Silverlight API to develop mapping tools hosted in SharePoint. The intranet-based tool enables LAWA project managers and employees to search construction projects by location or by project area, including all planning, airline, concession or LAWA-led projects in order to reduce passenger and tenant disruption. The CALM SharePoint GIS provides a cost benefit to both LAX and tenant construction projects by coordinating and preventing construction conflicts and expensive redesign.
