Abstract
Integrated Modeling of Metropolitan Extreme Heat Risk
Track: Atmosphere, Climate, and Weather
Authors: Olga Wilhelmi
System for Integrated Modeling of Metropolitan Extreme Heat Risk (SIMMER), being developed at NCAR, aims to improve our understanding of current and future urban vulnerabilities and health outcomes from extreme heat in urban areas. The project focuses on spatial integration of physical and social science data and models and on building local capacity for heat hazard mitigation and climate change adaptation in the public health sector. The presentation will emphasize the multidisciplinary aspects of the project and will include early results from climate modeling, land cover characterization and the analysis of vulnerability and adaptive capacity with the focus on Houston, Texas.
