Laser training introduces a unique problem within Military training. Lasers used during training, as a part of flight operations in particular, can travel great distances, with the potential to cause harm to personnel or equipment. The United States Marine Corps, Range and Training Area Management had a requirement for a tool that, given a training scenario and elevation data, could assess the safety of operational laser training on a range. The resulting tool, as a part of the Range Manager's Toolkit (RMTK), is called the Laser Range Management Tool (LRMT). LRMT uses line of sight and spatial analysis to ensure lasers are used safely in ground and aviation training scenarios and it provides USMC installations with laser surface danger zones generated during those scenarios. During the aviation process LRMT iteratively tests the area around a range and using the test results, provides the minimum safe lasing altitudes for the range.
