Abstract
Applied location suitability analysis for future subsidized housing projects
Track: Urban and Regional Planning

This presentation will discuss a case study from the City of Iowa City, which has developed a GIS-based location suitability model to identify areas where federal CDBG and HOME funds will be eligible for assisted rental housing projects. The project was initiated by the City Council, which wanted a rational analysis of locations of existing assisted housing, crime density, median household income, change in residential sale prices, and elementary school demographics. These criteria were weighted based on relative significance and a composite map outlined where funding is available and unavailable.
