Abstract
GoNM to Prevent LUST (Leaking Undeground Storage Tanks)
Track: Environmental Management

GoNM (Geographic Information System Screening Tool of New Mexico) is used to rate Underground Storage Tank facilities on the potential to leak, the environmental impact of a release, and facilitate remediation.
A study area around a GPS point is used to score criteria complied from 4 datasets: - physical surroundings, - demographics, - facility characteristics, - LUST Ranking or environmental impact. Using Spatial Analyst, information from these multiple data layers is queried to determine leak potential.
Each criterion within each layer is rated 1 to 5: 1 being minimal risk, 5 maximum risk. Each layer has scores averaged so there are 4 final scores. These 4 scores are averaged to give a score for the overall potential of facility to have a release. Those sites with a higher score will be inspected on a more frequent schedule to aid in preventing releases and minimize endangerment to human health and environment.
