The Integration of Geospatial-tech and Water Resource Management in Taiwan

Water resource management is a significant issue especially in Taiwan, because of the steep terrain, highly concentrated precipitation. For ensuring the water quality within reservoir that for providing civil usage, the authority need to monitor the rainfall, water level, and other indices. Hence, this article aims to describe the experiences regard to apply ESRI ArcSDE, ArcGIS series on water resource management based on web based management information system and portable devices. These web GIS systems were designed for providing complete spatial queried on flood area, debris flow, and constructions between different organizations. All these functions were carried out with service oriented architecture; it has high performance, and other useful spatial functionalities as well. It can be taken as essential decision supporting tools, specifically for water resource management policy maker. In sum, this article demonstrated how ArcGIS series products adopted for improving water resource management.
