The San Bernardino County Museum (SBCM), in Redlands, California, is a regional museum with exhibits and collections in cultural, natural, and geological history. Like most museums today, it is striving to integrate current advanced technologies to better engage visitors and enhance the communicating and learning experiences. It wants to use GIS technologies and TouchTables technology to transform the traditional way of presenting geological exhibits into a rich and interactive experience for museum visitors and guests.
A system called Virtual Reality Tours of San Bernardino Geological Wonders has been developed that helps SBCM do this. The system allows users to interact with three-dimensional spatial representations of geologic features. In addition, the system lets visitors explore various spatial and non-spatial information in a way that encourages them to learn more about the regional geology. The system integrates advanced GIS analyses to increase understanding and visualization of the geology of San Bernardino region.
