This presentation will introduce contribution of Kokusai Kogyo Co., LTD to recovery and reconstruction efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Effective applications of GIS in emergency response and disaster management will be shared, through introducing projects where data capturing, geospatial data management, geospatial processing and analysis were practiced.
Visualization of damage is critical in massive earthquakes so that proper rescue and support plans are quickly decided and implemented. Capturing geospatial data, such as satellite and aerial imagery, enables to assess damages swiftly. Since the devastative quake, Kokusai Kogyo Co., LTD has been playing a role in collecting data by aerial photography and airborne laser scanning so that damages have been efficiently assessed. Damages caused by the quake and Tsunami were assessed on the ground as well. The geodatabase of Arc GIS allowed high-speed processing of these large quantities of geospatial data, which helped meet various and urgent clients' needs.
