Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources

The Economics: National Ocean Watch (ENOW) data set describes six economic sectors that depend on the oceans and Great Lakes. ENOW is produced by the NOAA Coastal Services Center for 448 coastal counties, 30 coastal states, and the nation using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, and Bureau of Economic Analysis. Four indicators include: Business establishments, jobs, wages, and Gross Domestic Product. ENOW data makes it possible for users to better understand how local, state, regional, and national economies depend on the resources of the oceans and Great Lakes. ENOW helps show what's at stake in decisions about the management, and use of these resources. ENOW includes six sectors: Living resources, marine construction, marine transportation, offshore mineral resources, ship and boat building, and tourism and recreation. The presenter will describe ENOW data and show two products that apply the data to managing ocean and coastal resources.
