Abstract
Georeferencing Historic Maps for Today's Issues

Kentucky County Public Works wanted more information on a potential brownfield site. One of the things they needed was historic topography from 1920 or even 1930 but no later. The oldest we possibly had was 1962 topography if it was still in our office. Online I found a contour map from 1912, originally done by the USGS of the area. I was able to bring that into my ArcMap 10 project and was able to georeference the map to fit pretty well with our GIS layers. KCPW was able to get the historic contours they wanted and had a very good idea where the property they wanted was located at. Not only were they able to get the information they wanted, but they also received it within a day of requesting the information instead of days or weeks.
