Water Resources Planning Institute planners have been using ArcMap to process the map data for planning tasks. They encounter three major inconveniences during their planning: 1) map data are stored as shape files and scattering in different computers; 2) it takes long for planners to familiarize with geoprocessing tools provided by ArcMap; 3) time-consuming data pre-processing is involved. The development team of this article was authorized by WRPI in 2011 to establish an integrated planning platform for WRPI planners to easily access the required map data and more beware of their planning process. First, we categorized planning tasks according to SOP published by WRPI, organized them into clearly-defined menu items, and designed user interfaces with planning logics where many geoprocessing models created by ModelBuilder are embedded. Next, all map data in shape file were exported into geodatabase. Finally, we incorporated ArcMap functionalities and Excel VBA to facilitate the data pre-processing.
