Abstract
Terrestrial LiDAR Data in ArcGIS to Analyze Nevada Archaeological Sites.
Track: Lidar and 3D Mapping
Authors: C. Creger
Since 2006, we have been using LiDAR as a non-destructive tool to record and preserve archaeological sites. More recently, we have successfully integrated LiDAR data into ArcGIS to conduct an integrated spatial analysis of a prehistoric antelope trap in northeastern Nevada. The results produced a 3D image suitable for analyzing site microtopography, as well as large game hunting strategies. This presentation reviews the process used to bring terrestrial LiDAR into an integrated LiDAR and GIS environment for display and analyses. Our interdisciplinary approach to using ArcGIS and LiDAR in archaeological applications has streamlined workflows and processing mandated to meet federal agency preservation requirements.
