Abstract
Using ArcGIS to Support and Disseminate Maryland's Planning Policies
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Renee King
The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) casts the policy vision for smart growth throughout Maryland. The agency's work includes assisting Maryland's counties and municipalities in their land-use and water resource planning and providing local program review and technical assistance services.
The Department is also responsible for researching and creating effective tools to aid in policymaking. These tools have resulted in the development of several GIS desktop modeling and web-based applications in areas such as Land Use/ Land Cover, the PlanMaryland initiative, GrowthPrint, Priority Funding Areas (PFA), and Redistricting. MDP's resources have also been useful in developing other agency's applications such as FastTract (for permitting) and AgPrint (for agricultural land preservation). This presentation will serve to highlight applications related to these areas of interest as well as discuss the development environment used and how the applications are being utilized.
