Abstract
Cadastral Modernization Initiative - Updating Navy Real Estate Summary Maps
Track: Cadastral and Land Records

NAVFAC Southeast created the CMI as a phased, comprehensive, and repeatable system to ensure that vital property records are current, correct, and accessible to the Navy user community. Prior to Phase 1 of the CMI, real estate maps were not consistent, accurate, in a modern format, nor was muniment information digitally available. The CMI integrates cadastral/survey with GIS to leverage technology geographically and to track and manage real estate records (past, present, and future) in an on-demand web map viewer (GRX). The startup phase of the CMI audited and analyzed property muniment information tracking discrepancies geographically, spatially referenced CAD real estate maps with high-precision survey and rubbersheet techniques, and converted static CAD drawings and iNFADS data to SDSFIE-compliant geodatabase feature classes. Sites were then graded to help prioritize those needing boundary surveys. Later phases continue with Phase 1 methodology, planning for an eventual migration to the Parcel Fabric.
