The Strategic Alliance for Risk Reduction (STARR) worked with FEMA Headquarters and Regional offices to develop the Risk MAP Multi-Year Planning tool. The primary vision for Risk MAP is to deliver quality data that increases public awareness and leads to action that reduces risk to life and property. STARR developed the web tool using the ArcGIS Flex API, allowing FEMA stakeholders to input, review, and revise spatial data used to develop a nationwide prioritization plan for Risk MAP efforts. The inputs allow users to directly see the impact project sequencing will have on how Risk MAP program metrics and goals will be met at State, Regional, & National scales. Extensive statistical analysis, and the integration of charting capabilities, combined with the mapping offered by the tool provide significant insights into the spatial patterns associated with managing risk, thus informing decision makers tasked with mitigating risk throughout the U.S.
