Abstract
The Scripted Truth about CNMS
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Bradford Hartley
The Coordinated Needs Management Strategy (CNMS) is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Risk MAP initiative used to manage and track flood hazard information, utilizing GIS to provide enhanced flood risk awareness and data driven planning. CNMS is a digital inventory of existing flood studies showing the validity of existing studies and where new or updated studies are being performed in areas not reflective of current conditions.
This presentation will showcase ESRI's SDE as the backbone of CNMS process. We will show efficiency's gained utilizing multi-user editing, check-in-check out replication, and model builder tools streamlining tasks for spatial analysis. Integrating these tools improved coordination and data development between multiple agencies at the National, State, and local levels. We will also explore how CNMS data, coupled with risk and topography datasets will be used by Federal, State and local planners to prioritize funding toward areas identified with the highest needs.
