Due to the implementation of new FAA AC related to NextGen, most airport planning functions are migrating towards a GIS environment. The emergence of satellite based navigation has forced improvements in data accuracy of all spatial data on airport property and surrounding environs for the purpose of airspace obstruction screening. ArcGIS has a tool set for spatial analyses, but at present, there are not enough standard tools to complete a full analysis of imaginary protective airspace surfaces. This presentation is focused on the development of custom tools and modules related to Airport Airspace Obstruction Analysis. The research presentation will demonstrate a custom designed tool that has a capability to develop a necessary data model for. The geo-processing tool will be demonstrated as a screening tool for airport terminal approach and departure procedure development and airspace protection. The AAOA tool is available for use at all civil airports in the USA.
