Georgia Institute of Technology has nearly doubled in size over the last twenty years. If this trajectory continues, a tremendous amount of infrastructure will be added to support student, staff, and primary missions of education and research. A campus master plan exercise is currently underway. Projecting twenty years into the future poses several questions: Should the campus physical infrastructure grow linear to expected growth? What will the higher education learning environment look like? How will the quality of campus life change? What will the physical campus look like in 2035? In this paper we present visualizations of the future campus using ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 3D capabilities such as City Engine, ArcScene, and 3D Analyst. Existing campus 2D GIS data assets and 3D building models created by third party software applications were integrated into the ArcGIS 10.1 3D environment. This paper shares insights learned from using the 3D capabilities of ArcGIS.
