Abstract
Using ArcHydro and LiDAR to Improve Drainage in Monroe County
Track: Water Resources

ArcHydro tools are great for hydrologic studies of streams and rivers, but these tools can be applied to any type of water flow. In a more urban part of Monroe County, the residents were experiencing high occurrences street flooding and the County's sewer collection team asked if GIS could be used to help figure out the best way to fix the problem. The entire area for the pilot project three sewer jurisdictions (Monroe County, Town of Brighton, and New York State) and was just over half a square mile. The LiDAR data and ArcHydro tools were able to create sewer-sheds for each catch basin. This combined with an impervious surface coverage was then used to create runoff flows. The analysis is now automated (using model builder) so any future studies can be run easily by the collections team.
