Abstract
Making Freeport's Disparate Mine Site Data a Valuable Corporate Resource
Track: Implementing Enterprise GIS
Authors: Chris Franks
With many unique sites all over the world, Freeport has extensive data management needs, both spatial and non-spatial, centered on meeting regulatory, reporting and permit requirements and aggregating that data from the sites at the corporate level for analysis and trending. This data has historically been maintained in a variety of disparate formats with a variety of data management approaches at each mine, creating a very difficult environment for data aggregation. Freeport's Corporate GIS team and consultant GeoEngineers worked with the individual mine sites to assess existing data management practices, develop appropriate best practices, and begin the process of data aggregation to the corporate office. An enterprise GIS database and technology framework utilizing Esri's ArcGIS Server was developed along with a variety of automated data processing tools including automated extract, transform, and load tools. CAD and imagery processing applications were developed by GeoEngineers to help the data aggregation process.
