Abstract
ArcGIS Server based Geoportal for managing the Adriatic Archaeological sites
Track: Archaeology
Authors: Tarek Sboui, Françoise Pirot
In order to manage archaeological sites of the Adriatic space, users (e.g., archaeological analysts and citizens) need a geospatial tool to help them making decisions (e.g., protecting a site against risks). Accordingly, we have developed a geoportal system (AGP) to facilitate the management of archaeological sites.
To avoid developing the AGP from scratch we decided to use ESRI's ArcGIS Server (10) which provides ready-to-use functionalities. ArcGIS Server allows to define and publish a set of Web geoservices. Consuming these Web geoservices, using ArcGIS API for Flex (2.4), allows users to share archaeological data across the web, and to carry out spatial analysis operations. (e.g., comparing archaeological sites in different periods).
We have developed some Web services during summer 2011 using ArcGIS Toolbox. More services are undergoing development.
Our project will be useful not only for an archaeological audience, but also for other people who have similar need of decision making.
