TBEST is custom modeling software used to model various scenarios for short term transit planning. The model is calibrated using factual ridership information and available population and employment data. TBEST is then used for evaluating impacts of proposed transit service changes on system ridership numbers. LYNX' implementation of TBEST spanned January to November 2010 and resulted in the transit modeling tool becoming part of the service planning workflow, completely supported in house by LYNX' GIS staff. Tools for automated transit data import and for generation of Alternative Mobility Areas reports were developed as part of this project. The first tool streamlines data updates within the model ensuring data about the transit system is current. The second tool enables LYNX' planners to provide adequate analysis information to the local jurisdictions about the projected transit impact from areas of new development.
