Abstract
Enterprise GIS Challenges, Successes, and Best Practices
Track: Implementing Enterprise GIS
Authors: Jim Shute
Implementing an enterprise GIS can be both a daunting task and a highly rewarding endeavor. This presentation will discuss some of the challenges associated with an enterprise GIS and how an enterprise system differs from deploying a GIS within a single environment. Additionally, the presenter will identify potential roadblocks from the policy, technology, and personnel perspectives. Strategies for mitigating the impacts of these roadblocks will be provided in an effort to help attendees avoid and plan for issues, prior to having them hinder the enterprise rollout process. This discussion will also give examples of successful deployments and lessons learned throughout the process. By the end of the presentation, attendees will have an actionable set of guidelines for implementing an enterprise GIS of their own.
