Abstract
Remote Sensing Earthquake Response Applications using ArcGIS
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Christopher Clasen
This presentation describes the Naval Postgraduate School's research efforts in improved earthquake response using remotely sensed data. The project dovetailed emergency management requirements with remote sensing capabilities; developed prototype products and reviewed these with selected California State and local emergency service personnel against identified emergency response requirements; and identified gaps between requirements and capabilities to recommend solutions. Tiered approaches for remote sensing earthquake products were developed in conjunction with disaster response stakeholders based on potential connectivity levels after an event. The presentation will describe analysis approaches and several different types of products developed.
For the International User Conference, this presentation will highlight the use of the mosaic dataset to catalog and manage large volumes of multi-temporal, multi-resolution, and multi-sensor data. The researchers used the new Image Analysis Window and Image Classification tools now integrated into ArcGIS to pre-process imagery. The imagery products were disseminated using the cloud based ArcGIS Online.
