Abstract
NCR Geospatial Data Exchange—Sharing across Boundaries
Track: Homeland and National Security
Authors: Robert Horne, Michael Alford, Heidi Hammel
The use of geospatial information for emergency response has increased significantly due to the development of such initiatives as Virtual Alabama and Virginia's VIPER system. These systems use geospatial viewers to aggregate reference data and live feeds to support situational awareness. These systems rely almost exclusively on sharing arrangements with other government and commercial entities. Success depends on overcoming traditional political, technical and security hurdles. We will explore these issues and present the National Capital Region's Geospatial Data Exchange (NCRDX) vUSA implementation. vUSA relies on stakeholder-driven design in all its operations, from design of state viewer systems to the development of formal MoAs for data sharing to vUSA's innovative data-sharing environment. The presentation will include a demonstration of the NCRDX and related integration directly into ESRI's Flex viewer and the additional tools developed in Esri's ArcGIS Desktop environment to publish and consume shared data and links with the NCRDX portal.
