Abstract
Asset Management Using ArcGIS 10 and Cartegraph
Track: Public Works
Authors: Randy Skinner, Anne Mackey
The purpose of this session is to provide a summary of ways in which Cartegraph and ArcGIS 10 can be integrated to track assets and assist with customer inquiries through a cohesive data management system. Tarrant County is divided into four Commissioner precincts each with its own budget and autonomous responsibilities related to roadway maintenance. With each precinct creating its own work orders when road repairs were necessary, Transportation Services staff struggled to determine the value of roadway assets across the County. Making matters worse, when precinct staff received complaints or inquiries from the public, they were often under pressure to quickly determine the subject location and whether or not it was a County asset. Through the integration of Cartegraph and ArcGIS10, precinct staff now is able to quickly identify locations geographically and Transportation Services staff can compile roadway asset data in an efficient manner to meet federal reporting requirements.
