Abstract
Global standards: community and practice
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Authors: Steven Ramage
Typically when organisations collaborate inside and outside their organisations to increase efficiency, share data and maximize geospatial resources, they face challenges associated with interoperability, i.e. being able to integrate information and business practices. The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international open standards development organisation that has been addressing interoperability since 1994, with extensive support and investment from Esri. This presentation will provide an outline and update of these activities in a range of diverse areas, such as 3D, Atmosphere, Climate, and Weather, Business Intelligence, Defense and Intelligence, Emergency and Disaster Management, Environmental Management, Health and Human Services, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, Mobile GIS, National Mapping, Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources, Petroleum, Spatial Data Infrastructure, State and Local Government, Telecommunications and Location-Based Services, User Communities, Water Resources and Wildland Fire Management. The OGC is an industry forum for developing open standards and a place where communities meet and grow.
