Abstract
Different applications of LIDAR data – US Army Europe
Track: Lidar and 3D Mapping
Authors: JOSHUA Bridges
The US Army Europe Sustainable Range Program (SRP) is responsible for developing and maintaining geo-spatial data for US and host nation training areas across Europe. This data provides the basis for a range of GIS information products, which support the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program, produced using ESRI ArcGIS, which are available to military units to support planning and execution of training exercises. By utilizing historic and future LIDAR data, the GIS team are able to conduct noise contour analysis of the live-fire ranges at Grafenwöhr that impact local civilian communities. LIDAR is also being used to create line of site, 360º viewshed analysis of firing ranges. Furthermore, it describes the analysis of rain water flow on a Replicated Agricultural Terrain (RAT) training site after using LIDAR imagery to create a hydro flow model.
