Abstract
Black Saturday and the re-build of spatial systems in Victoria
Track: Wildland Fire Management
Authors: Mark Garvey
In the aftermath of the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, the Victorian Government established a Royal Commission with wide ranging powers to critically analyse all aspects of the fires including a comprehensive assessment of spatial systems including base data, software, resource sharing, standardisation, information flow and human resource management.
A key recommendation was that the Victorian Fire Agencies should develop a single spatial information system. Funds have been provided for the re-design and re-development of the State's bushfire mapping and information management systems.
This presentation reviews the development of eMap which is an integrated, cross agency, all hazards, all of state spatial information platform. eMap targets all users from ground observers to state controllers and has been developed using the very latest techniques and software.
